The makers wanted someone who could give a tough fight to Kangana’s character, and Vicky has showcased sufficient range to provide the same.”
The shooting of the film will begin in August this year post Manikarnika’s release in June or July. The film, which was earlier slated to release in April has been postponed.
“With Vicky too having a 40-day schedule for his next, Uri, in the pipeline, it was apt to defer this film,” said the source.
The role requires Vicky to gain 15 pounds. Besides Mental, Vicky will also be seen in Raazi starring opposite Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Dutt biopic.
As per the sources, the makers of the thriller also approached Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmaan Khurrana but Vicky Kaushal has been zeroed down for the role, who is yet to sign the deal.
