Husband charged with the murder of mother-of-three nurse

A MAN has been charged for stabbing his wife to death in their home over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Mohammed Abid Choudhry has been charged with murdering his wife, Saima Abid. She was pronounced dead when police officers were called to their home in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, early Tuesday.

Abid worked as a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital and she had three young children.

Speaking this week, Abid's cousin Farhat Abbas said: “We are all really devastated about the fact she [Saima] has gone.

“She was a lovely person. She had three beautiful kids. She had a lot to look forward to in life, it's just tragic.

“At the minute we're just very confused and upset. The whole family is upset.'

A family friend, who did not want to be identified, said the victim was a “really good mother” and “beautiful inside and out.”

“I've known her all my life. She was a really good friend. I saw just a few days ago and she seemed really happy. She had a beautiful soul. It's just really sad.

“It's just devastating for the family. It's a big shock for the whole community as well. Saima and her family are really well known. There are just no words.”

Eight years ago, Abid's sister Chamman Shan, 21, drowned in Hollingworth Lake. Her body was found on the banking at a well-known beauty spot in Littleborough.

Chamman had contacted police less than a week before her death expressing concerns for her safety. Chamman said she also feared being sent to Pakistan, an inquest heard.
