Weight loss: whether you’ve got one stone to lose or a dozen, it’s no easy feat. There are plenty of fad diets. There are plenty of techniques. There are even plenty of ways to cheat (think liposuction), but at the end of the day it’s all about adjusting our daily habits. The only way to lose weight – permanently – is to change our relationship with food and drink.
Easier said than done! But entirely possible. Here are three top tips to get you across the starting line.

1. Gourmet Menus 

Losing weight is hard no matter what. It’s harder still when you’ve only an onion, three carrots and a bagel in the fridge. One of the best things you can do for yourself when starting out is to create a meal plan; one for breakfasts, one for lunches and one for dinners and snacks. Know your own menu, treat yourself occasionally, and keep your larder stocked. Said meal plan can even include old favourites if you like, be it takeout pizza or Thai food.
Just be sure to include weights and measures where possible. Healthy food or indulgent chow, portion control is vital. Be brave. Try cooking. Try budgeting. Forge those new habits and make an effort. 2. Distractions

Even with the best of meal plans, shifting from a size large to size regular will come with growing pains. You’ll get hungry. You’ll get cravings. You’ll want to give in and go back to the old days. But you can’t. You won’t, because otherwise you’ll never make progress.
Introducing distractions. When you’re close to giving in during those first few weeks, stop, roll and do something different. Take a nap. Go Speedos swimming. When you’re starting off a weight loss journey, chances are you’ll mess up. You’ll go out with friends, have one cider too many, get some chips on the way home. And boom – before you know it you’re eight hundred calories over your goal according to the My Fitness Pal app. So what then? And what happens when you’re eight hundred calories over, eight days in a row?
It’s important to be kind to yourself. It’s important to forgive. Focus on your motivations for losing weight, whatever they may be, and slowly get back on the horse. There’s no shame in having tried and there’s certainly pride in trying again.
