Karan Johar’s last directorial was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Now after three years, he is all set to start his next film as a director titled Takht. The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

Recently, during the Jagran Film Festival, Karan spoke about being nervous about the film. He said, “This is the film that’ll get me nervous. I’ve not been nervous in the other experiences because they’ve always been about people I know. But I don’t know these people. To get into the heads of Shah Jahan, Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb, I had to do a lot of reading, researching, soul searching to understand their minds about their ambitions, failings, highs and lows in the 16th century. It’s not something I can comprehend easily.”

This will be for the first time Karan will be directing a historical drama. But the filmmaker feels that the story is relevant in today’s time as well. He said, “If you read anything about Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb, they were relevant to history and are relevant even today, their ethos is relevant even today. When you see the film you’ll probably realise what I’m talking about.”

It is surely not easy to direct a multi-starrer which features all the superstars of Bollywood. Talking about his actors, Karan said, “The actors are all great, they are friends. Some of them I’ve known for years have worked with before, some I’m supremely happy working for the first time. I’m not worried about them because they’re equally invested in the film as I am.”

Reportedly, Takht will go on the floors in February next year and the shooting of the film will take place in Italy. While the makers have not yet officially announced the release date of the film, it is said that Takht will hit the screens in December next year.
