Everything to know about this year’s Spring Racing Carnivals

2019 Spring Racing Carnival Events

1. Caulfield Cup

This year’s Caulfield Cup was held on October 19 at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne. It is an old thoroughbred race in the country. Amateur jockeys can hone their riding skills in the Caulfield Cup as they prepare for the Melbourne Cup. It is a wealthy turn handicap that covers 2400 meters. Most horses that competed in the Caulfield Cup will race in the Melbourne Cup.

2. Melbourne Cup

The 2019 Melbourne Cup race will be held on November 5 at Flemington Racecourse. The Melbourne Cup covers 3200 meters. It is among the most competitive spring racing carnivals in Australia. The winner gets $8 million. It features thoroughbreds that have been bred and trained from different countries.

3. Everest Race

Yes Yes Yes won the 2019 Everest race after she defeated Santa Ana Lane. It was held on October 19 at the Royal Randwick Racecourse. Glen Boss won $4.8 million. Chris Waller trained the colt. He rode Winx and remained unbeaten in 33 races in the past. The races were modeled with the Pegasus system. It had 12 slot holders that paid money to choose their runners.

4. Derby Day

The AAMI Victoria Derby Day marks the beginning of the Melbourne Cup carnival. It will be held on November 2 at the Flemington Racecourse. There are only two Derby runs in the country. The AAMI Victoria Derby comprises nine thoroughbred group races. The race is worth more than $2 million. Most attendees wear monochromatic clothes.

5. COX Plate

The 2019 COX Plate was held on October 26 at Moonee Valley. Damian Lane won the race and received $5 million. He rode Lys Graciux. The race covered 2040 meters. Staying and middle-distance horses compete in the COX Plate.

6. Kennedy Oaks day

Damian Lane rode Aristia and won the 2018 Kennedy Oaks Day. The 2019 edition will be held on November 7 at the Flemington Racecourse. Kennedy Oaks Day occurs after the Melbourne Cup. Group 1 winners receive a total of $1 million.

7. VRC Stakes Day

John Allen won the 2018 VRC Stakes Day. This year’s edition will be held on November 9 at the Flemington Racecourse. Group 1 winners in the Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes will receive $2 million in total.

The Spring Racing Carnivals attracts thousands of thoroughbred racing fans from Australia. It comprises several racing including the Melbourne Cup, the Derby Day, Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup.
