Deepika Padukone: My role is not from the heart or head, it’s from the gut

As Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic drama Padmavati releases yet another song Ek Dil Ek Jaan featuring the soothing romance between Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, Padukone feels that no other film could have been better than Padmavati to introduce her first collaboration with Shahid Kapoor. Their romantic chemistry in the song depicts the tale of Rani Padmini’s love for her husband.

As per the reports in a leading Indian daily, Deepika said, “Shahid and I have known each other for so many years, but a special film like Padmavati brought us together onscreen.”

Deepika Padukone believes that Shahid Kapoor is perfectly placed as the hero of the film, she said, “His contribution to this film is irreplaceable. It was important to have a good actor, with a strong screen presence and massive popularity to add to this film. Shahid brought that with him.”

Speaking about her character for which she felt nervous to play on screen, Padukone said, “I can’t remember the last time I was so nervous. I think it is the function of the fact that this one is completely different from any of my previous roles. My role is not from the heart or head, it’s from the gut.”

Padmavati chronicles the story of the legend of Maharawal Ratan Singh’s heroism and Rani Padmini’s intense devotion to her husband. Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor are paired together for the first time in the film. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh in the negative role as Allaudin Khilji.
