Ajay Devgn: I don’t feel the need to be diplomatic

Last year Ajay Devgn starrer Shivaay had a box-office clash with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Now, Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho is clashing with Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Shubh Mangal Savdhan. Moreover, Ajay Devgan starrer Golmaal 4 will be also pitted against Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar.

With so many films releasing together, Ajay Devgn seems to be cool about it.

“Box office clashes don’t matter. It has become common and happens with almost every film. It’s just that some people voice their opinions, while others don’t,” said Ajay Devgn to a leading Indian daily.

Last year, many in Bollywood perceived him being rebellion as he had opinionated about his displeasure towards Shivaay clashing with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Talking about the same, he said, “I am not a rebel if I voice my opinion against a wrong practice. I am honest with myself, I speak my mind and say what the truth is. I have never played the victim card and will never do that, as I am strong enough to face the situation.”

It’s rare to see Bollywood actors speaking their mind, and Ajay Devgn is that Bollywood actor who doesn’t care a damn to speak his mind.

“I don’t feel the need to be diplomatic. I am happy the way I am. As long as I know I am right, I care a damn,” said Ajay.

Talking about how film industry has changed over the years, he said, “Filmmaking and films have just become a business. Now, it’s about work rather than relationships.” Adding further about how the young generation perceives the profession, he said, “They are emotional but, at the same time, very practical, because of which they are constantly evolving. Maybe I can’t be like them, but that doesn’t make them wrong.”

Devgn mentions that Baadshaho was conceived  before 20 years, “Milan [Luthria] discussed the story when we were working on Kachche Dhaage [1999]. It’s kind of based on a true story. I really liked it and it was then itself that I had given my nod, but we both decided to develop the story further. Milan rigorously worked for a year-and-a-half to crack the story.”

Talking about producing film starring Sanjay Dutt and Farhan Akhtar, Ajay said, “Both Sanjay and Farhan have loved the script and have given their nod. Nishikanth Kamath will direct it. We intend to go on floors by the end of the year.”
