A Four-Season Primer to Dirt Biking in the United States

Who knows what we will be doing over the next year? International travel likely takes a while to recover and work out the details, so spending time at home or in one of the 50 states is probably the best idea.

One great way to take in much of the beauty that this land has to offer is on the back of a dirt bike. Of course, it takes some planning to hit the best spots at the ideal times. Luckily, we have done the research – just like they do when finding bettors the best betting bonus –  to provide riders with four unique choices from four different regions – one of each season – so you have a great option at any time of the year. Spring – Avoid the Texas Heat with a Southern Spring Dirt Bike Trip

Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas – basically any state where the Red River runs – offers a diverse mixture of trails and terrains for dirt bike enthusiasts. However, the problem is that those states get too darn hot in the summer to truly enjoy the trails as you end up doused in sweat.

However, from March to May, the weather is idealistic for trail riders. Take Little Rock, for example. The average daily highs from March to May range from the low 60s to just above 80f (roughly 12 to 23 degrees Celsius). The region gets some rain during the earlier parts of spring, making it an excellent spot for those looking for some muddy action.

You could also spend your entire time just in Texas – which is home to some massive off-road parks, including the 2,000-acre River Run Park (although some of the larger ones cater a little more towards the ATV enthusiasts over the dirt biker rider).

Summer – Smoky Mountain Vibes Meet Ideal Summer Dirt Biking Conditions

The coastal climates mixed with the Appalachians help make this area of the United States the perfect spot to enjoy dirt biking in the summer. One of the most-renown off-road trials is found in this region – the Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia. The mountain vistas and rocky terrains make for many beautiful yet challenging trails for riders to explore.

West Virginia is not the only place in the Appalachians to visit during the summer. Many of the biggest peaks east of the Mississippi are found near the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. You could also head further north to the White Mountain range in New Hampshire. Although, you should remain very vigilant if you choose to climb Mount Washington (which holds the record for wind speed not associated with a tornado or tropical storm in the Northern Hemisphere).

Fall – Head to the Great Lakes for Some Fall Fun

The Great Lakes in the Fall are beautiful, mild and dry – especially in late September through October. The leaves changing colours make for some stunning rides, while the diverse regions offer plenty of options.

One region we highly recommend is located in northeastern Minnesota. Riders will love the Sawtooth Mountains range on the shores of Lake Superior – which offers riders moderately challenging trails with some of the most underappreciated views in all of the United States.

Other great spots include most of northern Michigan, especially Ogemaw County – where the population is sparse, the forests are dense, and the dirt biking is underrated.

Winter – Rip Around Southern California and Arizona When it is too Cold Everywhere Else

California dunes to the Grand Canyon – hitting up California and Arizona during the winter won’t just give you a reprieve from winter weather elsewhere – it will give you some of the best dirt biking in the country.

The Imperial Sand Dunes (also called the Algodones Dunes) in California is a fantastic spot for off-road driving. The sand stretches for hundreds of miles, with dunes rising as high as 300ft in some areas.

If you want more solid ground under your tires, heard northeast of the dunes to Arizona and the Grand Canyon. There is some excellent biking at both the north rim and south rim of the Grand Canyon – meaning you can stretch your adventure for days – especially if you are camping intermittently.
