By: Eastern Eye Staff

The coronavirus situation affected the activities of all people. Concerts were canceled, cafes and restaurants were closed, numerous cultural events were canceled, and the whole world of entertainment was put on hold. However, despite all the restrictions, there are still ways to have fun, so we have prepared a list of several ways to have fun safely during a pandemic.

Video games

Video games are a great and safe way to have fun. Video game enthusiasts have managed to create a community in and around video games even during the pandemic. In addition to having hours of fun in front of the computer, playing games gives us a new concept of socialization. Video games are used not only for competitions but also for making true and lasting friendships. In the sea of existing games, we hope you find at least one that will help you intend to have fun.

Virtual museums

Although many museums operate in conditions adapted to protection measures, they also offer a completely new experience – online tours of museums. Online tours are a great way to use your free time and meet new cultures in a completely safe way. The British Museum in London offers an insight into some of its collections in an online tour. There is also Versailles with an exhibition on Louis XIV, the Louvre with Michelangelo and Rembrandt, MoMA, etc.

Online casinos

If you are one of those who prefer to have fun and win a prize, there are always open online casino sites. Their sites offer a wide selection of games, whether you are a fan of skill based slots or still more poker, blackjack, or well-known roulette.

Online concerts

While concerts are canceled, artists still find ways to reach their audiences and delight them with some shows on social media. Although many comments that this cannot replace the experience of an open-air concert, others support this way of communicating with an audience. This is a great way to listen to your favorite bands.

Gym

If you are a sport type and  want to go to the gym, try to find out if your chosen gym applies protective measures and what measures; these may be restrictions on treadmills and bicycles that are too close. Many gyms can prohibit shared locker rooms and leave access only to the bathrooms. To be even safer, be sure to bring some disinfectant with you to wipe the equipment you use during training. And be sure to wash your hands evenly before and after training and avoid using yoga mats and props that are difficult to disinfect and clean.

If you are more for outdoor fun, we suggest individual sports, because today sports and recreation are a little different from what we are used to before the pandemic. As social distance measures are still recommended, preference is given to running, tennis, kayaking, cycling., but you can also organize a picnic. Go to a restaurant for dinner, camp, visit beaches and pools.

Outdoor sports

Although it is recommended to run in pairs, not in groups, yet running in a group is certainly possible but under certain conditions. Tennis is another sport that is ideal when it comes to safety during recreation, and sports equipment is disinfected before and after each workout. There are many individual sports in which there is no physical contact, and they practice in nature, and one such is kayaking – water sport, away from people and viruses.

Low-risk outdoor activities

Activities you can practice with friends for fun are picnics, visits to the farmers market, drive-in cinema. At picnics, the most crucial thing is not to gather in big groups. A group of 3-4 friends is more than enough, be sure to bring food and drinks from home or take them from your favorite restaurant and enjoy them in your public park with friends. If you decide to visit a farmers market, be sure to wear a mask and keep your distance.

Camping, dinner in restaurants

If you decide to camp only with people close to you (people from your household), then this activity carries a small risk of infection with the virus. But if you are still camping with friends, in that case, be sure to camp in separate tents at least 2 meters apart and avoid sharing food and drinks. Be sure to bring soap and other disinfectants to camp and use a mask when needed.

When the time is right for dining out on the patio, going to a restaurant with friends is a good idea. What you need to pay attention to is whether the tables are adequately arranged and spaced apart. Again we will mention the importance of a distance of 2 meters and mandatory hand washing when entering and leaving the restaurant. So you can enjoy your favorite dishes if you follow the safety rules.

Beaches and pools

As warm weather approaches, we wonder if it is safe to go to such public places. The answer is that water, especially chlorinated, cannot transmit the virus but only close contact with others. It is important to maintain physical distance when relaxing on the beach or by the pool. Avoid using public bathrooms, and if you still have to use them, be careful and wash your hands after use. If you want to enjoy swimming, it is only important to avoid the hours when most people are at the pool, that is, to avoid the crowds.

During this pandemic, we are all looking for ways to have fun and forget a bit about the current situation, yet we have to take care of ourselves and others. Practice precautions such as washing your hands, wearing a mask and avoiding crowds, and keeping the prescribed distance for all those essential things for the well-being of the activities that are part of everyday life.
