Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for the lead role as Mohan Bhargava, a Non-Resident Indian working as a Project Manager at NASA in Swades. Hrithik didn’t feel the film was apt enough for him and thus declined the role and then the role went to Shah Rukh Khan. While the film didn’t win any box office battles, it did, however, earn a cult status over a period of time.
2. Dil Chahta Hai
Akshaye Khanna’s role in Dil Chahta Hai was initially offered to Hrithik Roshan but he didn’t accept the role. Hrithik at one of his early interviews was found expressing his disbelief as to how Farhan could pull such a script with so much style. Three years later, the two collaborated for Lakshya.
3. Main Hoon Na
Hrithik was cast by Farah Khan the director of the film, to play the role of Lucky in Main Hoon Na which later on went to Zayed Khan. Hrithik turned down the offer due to lack of content and depth in the character. The film was a mega box office success.
4. Rang De Basanti
Hrithik was offered the role of Karan/Bhagat Singh, the second lead behind Aamir Khan that was later played Tamil star Sidharth but he turned down the film. The film was much appreciated by the audiences and was praised for strong screenplay and dialogues. The film was declared Blockbuster by Box Office India.
5. Bajrangi Bhaijaan
The scriptwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad had approached Rakesh Roshan with the script which they had loved. Rakesh Roshan decided to cast son Hrithik Roshan in the lead role. However, Prasad wanted the Roshans to co-produce the film which Rajesh Roshan disagreed to do. The script then eventually landed with Kabir Khan who decided to cast Salman Khan in the lead.
