5 Bollywood horror films you should not miss

  1. Bhoot

Bhoot is an Indian supernatural horror film directed by Ram Gopal Varma and stars Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar in the lead roles. The film was a box-office hit. Urmila won several accolades and awards for her performance as a ghost possessed wife. Verma made a sequel called Bhoot Returns.

Plot – When a married couple moves into a flat that is haunted by a spirit, a series of inexplicable experiences drive the wife to near madness. Now, the husband must protect his wife to save their marriage.

2. Bhool Bhulaiyaa

This film is directed by Priyadarshan. Bhool Bhulaiyaa features Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel and Shiney Ahuja in lead roles with Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav in supporting roles.  It received universal critical acclaim and was also a huge commercial success.

Plot – When U.S.-based Siddharth visits his Indian hometown with his new wife, he insists they stay at the ancestral home, laughing off family members’ warnings of ghostly goings-on in the mansion. But events soon make him reconsider his beliefs. As unexplained and terrifying occurrences arise, Siddharth calls on his doctor friend to help solve the mystery.

3. 1920

1920 is written and directed by Vikram Bhatt. The film stars debutant actors Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma as the married couple and Indraneil Sengupta in a special role.

Plot – The film revolves around the events surrounding a married couple living in a haunted house in the year 1920.

4. Raaz 

This film is directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Kumar S. Taurani, Ramesh S. Taurani. The film stars Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea.  Bipasha Basu was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award and won major awards and took the film on her name.

Plot – Sanjana and Aditya decide to give their marriage one last chance. They plan a holiday in Ooty, but they don’t know that a strange figure is waiting for them to come.

5. Haunted 3d

This film is directed by Vikram Bhatt and starring Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Tia Bajpai, Achint Kaur and Arif Zakaria. The film is India’s first stereoscopic 3D horror film. Haunted – 3D recorded the highest opening ever for an Indian horror film.

Plot – A Realtor encounters two ghostly entities while attempting to sell a mansion.
