1. Jiah Khan 

She was a British-American actress and singer. Khan always aspired to pursue a career in acting and moved to Mumbai for a film career. She made her film debut in the 2007 Ram Gopal Verma film Nishabd for which she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She was found hanging from her ceiling at her Juhu apartment on June 3, 2013. Her mother Rabia Khan alleged that it was not a suicide and that it was murder. She blamed actor Aditya Pancholi’s son, Sooraj Pancholi, who was Jiah’s boyfriend, for her death.  

2. Parveen Babi 

She is one of the most glamorous actresses in the 1970s and early 1980s. Parveen entered glamour world with modelling and was quickly followed by her film debut with the film Charitra (1973), opposite cricketer Salim Durani. That film made Parveen get noticed and was snapped up for several more films.  The actress was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and was found dead in her Mumbai flat. Postmortem, the doctors speculated that she starved herself to death.  

3. Divya Bharti 

Divya Bharti was one of the highest-paid and well-established actresses of her time. She made her debut with a lead role in the successful Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), at age 16. After featuring in a number of high-grossing Telugu films, she progressed to Bollywood films in 1992 with the action thriller VishwatmaShe acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993, which is to date an unbroken record in Hindi cinema. She died on 5 April 1993, aged 19 from head injuries sustained after falling off the balcony of her fifth-floor. Police investigated the case but came to a conclusion that it was a suicide. However, there were speculations that her husband Sajid Nadiadwala was the cause of her death.  

4. Silk Smitha 

Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati better known by her stage name Silk Smitha was an Indian film actress. In a career spanning 17 years, she appeared in over 450 films in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi languages. On 23 September 1996, she was found dead in her apartment in Chennai, apparently having committed suicide. Her story was also made into a film. Vidya Balan portrayed Silk Smitha in the blockbuster The Dirty Picture. 

5. Guru Dutt 

Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone better known as Guru Dutt, was an Indian film director, producer and actor. He has given classics such as Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand. His two films Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool are now included among the greatest films of all time. He was found dead due to an alcohol and sleeping pill overdose. Dutt was a victim of depression.
