5 blockbuster films rejected by Shah Rukh Khan

Many know that Shah Rukh Khan prefers working with his inner circles owing to which the King Khan has lost some blockbusters that could have proved his ability to work in different genre films.

  1. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai:

After the debacle of Koyla, Rakesh Roshan initially wanted Shah Rukh Khan to play the role in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, however things didn’t work out and he had to pick his son to do the film. The rest is history, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai carved a niche in Hrithik Roshan’s career and became the highest grosser film at the box office.

  1. Lagaan:

Initially, Ashutosh Gowariker offered Shah Rukh Khan to do the film who rejected it stating that it would fail to work at the box office. Ashutosh, then convinced Aamir to play the role in Lagaan, which then became the only Hindi film to be nominated in Oscars in the last 2 decades.

3. Jodha Akbar:

After the debacle of Swades, Ashutosh Gowariker wanted Shah Rukh Khan to work in Jodha Akbar, however, King Khan didn’t find the shooting locations appropriate as it would not let him spend quality time with his kids during holidays. Jodha Akbar then went to Hrithik Roshan which became a huge success at the box office.

4. Munnabhai MBBS:

Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted Shah Rukh Khan to do the film Munnabhai MBBS. Sanjay Dutt was supposedly to play the role of Zaheer which later went to Jimmy Shergill. However, Shah Rukh Khan couldn’t do the film for reasons best known by him.

  1. 3 Idiots:

Rajkumar Hirani again wanted Shah Rukh Khan to play the role in the film 3 Idiots which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book Five Point Someone. However, Shah Rukh Khan rejected the film which later went to Aamir Khan. The film became the highest grosser and acclaimed many awards for the same.
